Guilty Pleasures: Zak Spears, Dean Flynn

Today it is time for a short gay history lesson! With Gay Pride Month behind us and most of us at home nursing our sunburns, we are rubbing on the aloe thinking about the hot weather and even hotter men from our local parades.

This year I heard several guys mumbling “Where’s the beef?” early in the morning because it was kind of chilly and there was a shortage of shirtless wonders for our viewing pleasure. I’m sure not many of us are actually old enough to know where that phrase comes from, but thanks to Wikipedia this gay claimed catch phrase has a history of it’s own.

It is from the ’80s (the decade that originally brought us Madonna and Cyndi Lauper) Wendy’s hamburger commercial where an elderly woman screams “Where’s the beef?” when she sees her burger at a competitors fast food joint that is seemingly all bun.

Depending on whether you’re a top or a bottom, you may not mind running into “all buns” at Pride, but buns or not, I think you’d expect and want to see some “BEEF” parading around, all skimpy shorts and rippling muscles.

So in honor of those hunky, hot, and hulky guys of Pride, this guilty pleasures is answering the iconic question and giving you some beef… buns included!
